40th anniversary photos - (part 14) the Renault 4 camper van!
No you're not having delusions, this really is a very special
edition R4F6 camper. It was one of only 12 made, and was manufactured in England
around 1979 I believe. It had the glorious honour of picking up 2 of the 4 awards
at the concour d'elegance, both for the best special edition R4, and for the
best R4 as voted by the public. As you can see from the first picture below,
it is all kitted out with appliances and furnishings, although I don't think
the cute kid in the back came as standard.
The owner tells me the trailer wasn't part of the original vehicle,
and I think he said the canvas roof has also been replaced.
The camper was inviting a lot of attention, and I'm sure every
R4 lover secretly wants one. If anybody knows anything of the remaining eleven,
or not remaining as I suspect will be the case, please let me know.
