40th anniversary photos - (part 20) the world's only Renault 4 and a half?

One of the most unusual models found at the event, and one of the most inventive which attracted a lot of attention. The owner tells me the job of converting the extra half of a Renault 4 into a trailer was quite easy. He cut the car in two between the front and rear passenger doors, and shaped a piece of wood to seal the front. A colleague on a restoration course I once attended used to be a Renault mechanic and did many things with Renault 4's. He tells me he performed a similar operation when converting an R4 into a pickup, by cutting it in the same place.

Also in the background of these pictures, you can see the Yellow Submarine themed R4 which I was on about before. I was positive I'd taken some photos of it on its own at the campsite whilst talking with the owner, but I must have been mistaken. Thankfully my brother took a good picture of it which he has since mailed me, and which you can find right at the end of the Arnhem report. It appears in one or two other photos later on, but unfortunately you really need to view it up close to see how well it was designed. Some of the small details such as the lettering were perfectly recreated from the Beatles artwork. The owner purchased an older Renault 4 Basic edition, which has no rear side windows, so as to make the design work best. He showed me pictures from before and during the makeover, and it took him about one and a half years to complete. If you are the owner or you have any additional pictures of this car please send them in.
