40th anniversary photos - (part 28) a couple of old Renault vans
Although there's more pictures to come from elsewhere, these were
the last two I took myself from the whole event. These 2 old Renault vans were
out in the car park and probably feeling a bit left out of all the R4 revelry
inside the museum, so I thought they deserved a showing here. The first one
has 'Estafessie' written on the top, which I presume is its name.

And this one, in addition to the flashing blue light on top, has
'Sapeurs Pompiers de Pigny' written on it, which translates as the Firemen of
Pigny. Interestingly quite a few Renault 4's used to be used as police cars
many years ago, as can be witnessed on some of the model R4 cars that are still
available to buy. I'd be keen to hear from anybody who knows whether any town
or district ever used the R4 as its main type of police car, taxi or other utility
vehicle. Just as in Mexico City where green VW Beetles still rule the streets
as taxis today.
