You don't often see these features in Britain any more. The exterior hinges remained on the 4 until around the time that the GTL was launched. Whenever I see them, I can't help imagining some extremely unlikely and unfortunate situation whereby I would be a pedestrian who has a close shave with the car, and gets their trouser belt clip snagged on the passing 30mph hinge. Then again, I also imagine my home is going to blow up every time I finger a lightswitch, and that my mug of tea will explode when I fill it with boiling water. So, it would appear to be a personal phobia and I wouldn't advise anyone to lose sleep over the idea!
