40th anniversary - Arnhem 2001: photos part 23: see if these 'jog' your memory

Here's another picture of the yellow submarine, with a Renault 6 on the right and the second of the two 'Jogging' models on the left. I was positive that I'd taken some photos of it on its own at the campsite whilst chatting with the owner, but I must have been mistaken. Thankfully, my brother took a good picture of it and the owner himself later got in touch with further images, which you can find at the end of the photo entries. You really need to view it up close to see how well it was designed. Some of the small details such as the lettering were perfectly recreated from The Beatles' artwork. The owner purchased an older Renault 4 basic edition, which has no rear quarter windows, so as to make the design work best. He showed me pictures from before and during the makeover, and it took him about one and a half years to complete.

You can find the other 'Jogging' model in part 17 of this section. As mentioned previously, one of the advertising posters designed alongside the launch of this car in 1981/2, was on display at the exhibition in the museum, and featured some ridiculous posers kitted out in matching jogging costumes. To make the car on display here more special, the owners seen below were attired in those very same costumes from the advert, with the Jogging logo on the front of their tops, and original tracksuits, trainers and headbands.

Full marks to the owners then for their effort in getting into the spirit of the occasion. I believe they also scooped up the award for the Best R4 post-1980 in the Concours d'Élégance. These Jogging models with their blue and white styling and Day-Glo trim / interior are now highly desirable special editions. Another earlier special edition was the 'Safari', and some pictures of one of these will follow in a later entry.

This car was the winner of the first awards category for Best R4 pre-1980. Click the 'next' link at the bottom of the page for more pictures.

The car in this last image can also be seen in part 3 driving through the streets of Doesburg during the Saturday tour. It's very unusual because not only is it a vivid tangerine orange, but it has the early, basic front grille moulded into the bonnet akin to the Renault 3, although it could simply be a later edition with an older bonnet fitted. Certainly, this paint code was never in the original Renault catalogue! Another photo follows in part 24.
