40th anniversary - Arnhem 2001: photos part 28: a couple of old Renault vans
Although there's more pictures to come from other contributors, these were the last two I took myself during the event. The two old Renault vans seen below were out in the car park and probably feeling a bit left out of all the R4 revelry going on inside the museum, so I thought they deserved a showing here. The first one has 'Estafessie' written on the top, which I presume is its pet name, what with it being an Estafette model.
And this one, in addition to the flashing blue light on top, has 'Sapeurs Pompiers de Pigny' written on it, which translates as the 'Firemen of Pigny'. Interestingly, quite a few Renault 4s used to be used as police cars many years ago, as can be ascertained from some of the model R4 cars that are still available to buy. I'd be keen to know which towns or districts may have used the R4 as their main type of police car, taxi or other utility vehicle.
