My sister's multicoloured R4 parked in front of Nicolexia, September 2003

September 2003, and probably the last photo of my second Renault 4, Nicolexia, in her whole form. Just days after this picture was taken, I drove the car to her final resting place, although some bits of the vehicle looked set to live on (see the next set of photos, #MP25). The rot on the central chassis, sills and floor pan was beyond reasonable long-term repair, despite the well documented efforts to restore the rear chassis and suspension in previous years.

Photographed here once more was my sister with her R4 fandango, which on the contrary had sailed through its most recent MOT with not a single fault; NOT FAIR! I almost had that car myself when it came up for grabs on this site for free in summer 2001, but decided to stick with Nicole in consideration of the extensive repairs that had been performed on her underside. Clearly, I made a big mistake, since my sister's car had experienced barely a hitch since, and had cost next to nothing to maintain. The previous owner had done some undersealing on it which had obviously paid off. On the right is me, seemingly demonstrating the art of matchstick posture. My legs are significantly askew from my otherwise vertical line of standing. In fact, the more I look at it, the more I appear to defy the natural gravitational pull of the Earth. Maybe I always stand like this without knowing it.
