It's been a long while since Reflexia graced these pages, and some of you might wonder if she is still around. Well, here in September 2007 you can see her sat in the elegant surroundings of Utrecht, the Netherlands. Myself and a friend travelled over, taking the ferry from Dover to Dunkirk, from where it is a drive of approximately four hours to the central Dutch city.
Two months before, the car underwent some heavy repairs at Derek Flavell's Renospeed garage in London, though nothing was changed cosmetically. The majority of the considerable repairs done were welding jobs. You might spot the rust under the front grille and the scrape that still remains on the bonnet, from when I bought it three years earlier. But the car did us proud and thundered along the continental motorways at 80mph when required. I never like to push the car to limits except when necessary, and our haste to reach our destination on both legs of the journey meant that such speeds were a requirement.
The picture above was taken in Admiraal van Gentstraat, outside the Hotel de Admiraal where we stayed, a very attractive street not far from the city centre. So, Reflexia has notched up another few hundred miles to her name. Alas, not one other Renault 4 was spotted throughout the whole trip.
Two months on from posting this photo, I was contacted by a reader named Hans Veldkamp, who found the above picture familiar. He suggested that in not spotting any other Renault 4s during my trip, I was obviously unaware of the significance of this location in the R4 world. It is apparently only a few streets away from the home of Bram, the Remarkable Renault 4 site owner, and legendary quatrelle collector. If only I had known!
