A few days after buying my third Renault 4, Reflexia, in August 2004, I took a trip out into the East Sussex countryside with some friends. We drove down to Birling Gap, a wonderful spot on the coast near the Seven Sisters. There, we happened across this rather forlorn, rusty metallic green R4, presumably belonging to a local resident. It clearly hadn't been driven for some time, and had suffered immensely from the salty sea air rushing off the waves of the English Channel only metres away, and lashing its bodywork relentlessly. The driver's window was open so I slid one of my Renault 4-Play calling cards inside, as I often do with models that I spot on my travels.
When we returned to the car - following my friend's insane and failed attempt to power-kite high on top of the cliff edge on a windy day - we found a note left on my windscreen from the owner of the green car. I met the lady nearby, and she advised of her intention to dispose of the vehicle in the near future. In fact, she had almost given up hope of seeing it made use of already. She offered me various parts but none which I was in desperate need for, having only just purchased my new R4 in good working order days before, and in having no storage space available. She assured me that the engine was still very good and plenty of spares were available, it was just the usual problems of rot underneath which were causing trouble around the suspension, in addition to the obvious rust all over the body surface. The lady had owned several Renault 4s before and had driven them most of her life, feeling very sad to see this car go but finding it hard to find many good models still available to replace it.
As a consequence of meeting her, the 'mystery' of this car is already solved, making it only the second car featured in this section to date for which any information has materialized.
