Peter Monk from Victoria in Australia sent these pictures in late March 2003 of his newly acquired car. The Renault 4 was sold in Australia during the 1960s, so although now scarce, a few older models still remain dotted around the country. He tells this story of his purchase:

'...last year I sent you some pictures of me in Vanuatu some 20 years ago with some Renault 4's. I was rather pleased to see you posted them in the Mystery Car section. At the time I said I was looking to buy a R4 here in Australia;- if I could find one... I have finally tracked one down in the central Victorian city of Bendigo. I bought the car late last year and drove it home (didn't stop laughing all the way) and am starting on some restoration work. It is a 1965 model and was bought new in Bendigo and I am the 3rd owner. It is virtually rust free and in generally sound condition. However the bonnet and dashboard were a bit shabby and I'm pleased to say I have managed to find much better ones. The front seat had been replaced by a home made effort and I have also managed to find an original one of those although it will require some recovering;- a good challenge for my upholsterer! The car had also lost its original kidney shaped rear view mirror and this had been replaced by a huge rear view mirror out of some yank tank and this had been stuck in a virtually central position in the windscreen. Consequently when driving home I could hardly see what was ahead of me but had a magnificent panoramic view of where I had been! I'm glad to say I have managed to also track down a proper mirror. Ah the thrill of the hunt! I have attached 2 photos of the car that were taken at home about 3 weeks ago. Hope you find them of interest and will keep you updated as work progresses on the restoration...'
