| #328: Ivor, age 21, Croatia,
22/12/04, kopapopesku*yahoo.com I am a big fan of renault 4 and there are plenty Renaults 4 here in Croatia. Most of them are gtl-s but there are still many tl models in good condition. Greetings to all renault 4 fans. |

darko biljan, age 36, Canada, 30/11/04, darkobiljan*net.hr the best web page dedicated to the best car ever. i live in canada and miss renault 4 a lot. my dad had three of them and finally bought twingo last year. he lives in Croatia and our old r4 still runs for the second owner (240 000 km and first clutch!!!). i will try scanning few of my older pics and will send them to you. keep up good work. greetings from canada |
| #325: Rastko,
age 34, Serbia and Montenegro, 24/11/04 I have a 14.5-year-old R4. It was made in Novo Mesto, Slovenia (at that time it was in Yugoslavia), with a 1108 cm3 engine. Apart from recent problems with corrosion (esp. gearbox carrier), this car has never let me down. |

Choop, age 27, Serbia and Montenegro, 21/11/04, chooop*gmail.com Hello there, what's up? Why don't you make this a messageboard? Or add forum to site? My 4tl spec is running good, but i'm going to have to replace the carburator and do some bodywork.:] I also broke gearbox handle, but fixed it right away. You know, that pipe curved S? under the hood.... :] Greetz! Choop webmaster comments: I do intend to add some interactivity to this site in the future, but it's a huge and complex task to install a really decent forum. Anybody can set up some crappy simple forum or one run in conjunction with some other service which scatters adverts everywhere, but the sort of thing I want and need will take much time to plan, and I have no time at present to even get started. The other problem, and the reason I've never implemented one to date, is that from observing countless other similar messageboards, they soon become full of complete horseshit, input by all kinds of undesirables from around the world, much of it spam, advertising and other rubbish. It requires constant moderation and maintenance to keep in order, and plagues the website for all the time that nobody is bothering to remove it all, so since I'm barely at home these days I wouldn't have much opportunity to administer everything. A forum or other message area will hopefully materialize one day, but don't expect anything too soon. |

| #321: Andy The Candy, age 38,
Austria, 30/10/04, andythecandy*gmx.net URL: http://www.r16.info/ Hello, R4 friends! After looking for a suitable R4 for some months, I am a happy owner of a 87 R4TL, in good condition, besides some necessary welding at the rear bottom... This car is one of the last ones sold here, and it´s got the 956cc engine (the same block like the 1108 GTL, but smaller liners), which was sold in Austria around 50 times only... If I can spare some time, I´ll send some photos fo Ferdinand on our forst long tour, 1900 km from Vienna to Croatia (which is, by the way, a R4 paradise). I also have a very beautiful R16 from 1966, and I run the above mentioned R16 page. I would be pleased if you would surf in and take a look (and don´t worry about the German language, the English version is right on the way...) Best wishes to all R4 drivers, and keep on going! |

| #316: Matt
Tritt, age 61, USA, 29/9/04, solarone*charter.net OK, so I don't own one now. However, while stationed in Heilbronn, Germany I DID back in 67. I ordered it from the factory with US required equipment (bumper over-riders bars front and back, special turn signals and headlights) plus, they threw in a sunroof and deluxe fabric seats! God what a great car! In 68, when I brought the car back to California, I had the only one in the U.S. I do wish that I had waited a year for the 4 speed transmission to come out though. That was my one and only complaint of this car - no gear for mountain driving. I originally bought this car because I couldn't get a 2CV, too long a wait (like a year!), plus it had a bit more power and carrying capacity. Of the over 40 cars that I've owned, and there were some really good ones, the R4 still is my favorite and I wish they still made them today. Maybe with airbags! I envy the access to my favorite vehicles you have in the UK and Europe. Everything over this side of the pond is boring and over-regulated, not to mention the idiot that's in the White House. Cheers, Matt Tritt. webmaster comments: I was over your way the other week, including a short hop to Arizona. It's true, all the cars you have there are big and bland, and there's a bewildering quantity of pick-ups everywhere you look. I had to drive some ridiculously sporty bright yellow Toyota Matrix Automatic (not my choice), although I must admit it was easy enough to handle. I stuck out like a sore thumb and it appeared that nobody else in the US drove a yellow car. You sure have some strange laws of the road there. How was I to know whilst sitting at a red light in the right lane that all the cars beeping me behind were suggesting I legally skip the red light and turn right? And what's happened to all those big flat square American cars we see in the movies and which I expected to see around every corner? There were hardly any, being replaced mainly it seems by absurdly over-sized Dodge people-carriers and gas-guzzling trucks. Of course, I didn't spot any Renault 4s, although since I was stationed in Texas most of the time, I wasn't too far away from the one R4 that I believe still exists in America, in Houston (see the very first people's pic - number PP1 in the gallery - for more about that). What really shocked me was the way car culture is so heavily ingrained into society, and how I was made to feel like some social inadequate if I dared walk even to the next block on the sidewalk (a lot of the time there was no sidewalk anyway), or how I would be derided by locals in Dallas for daring to take the new tram into town, even though it was very clean and efficient and clearly a way forward. My experiences of America were at best mixed, but it's good to hear from folks like yourself who still have an interest in the R4s. A shame though, as you say, about that twit you have in the White House. Thankfully I met many Texans, believe it or not, who agree with such sentiments. There is hope! |

McCool, age 31, UK, 24/9/04, patrick.mccool*vitalityfood.co.uk I lived in the pyrennees for 2.5 yrs, bought it there, one previous owner who had done 28,010 kms in 26 years!! (True!) It is baby blue, a bit scraped, but I love it. Perfect for London, and all the sleeping policemen... Good luck to all R4 owners and drivers. |

Smith, age 28, Australia, 21/6/04 Strangest damn thing. After living in Sydney for 14 years, I had a dream last night that I bought an old R4 for $50 (about 20 pounds). I have no idea why!! Hopped on the net to find some pics and discovered this fantastic site. Found myself thoroughly absorbed by the tales and photos of Nicolexia and Angelica. Keep up the good work! If I see any R4s down under, I'll try and get a pic. Cheers, MAT. |

Until now these cars were working...I owned just R4's in my life driver. First a R4 F4 GTL of 1982 and now a R4 TL of 1989 who made the "4L TROPHY" in Marrocos in 2003! Still running with power!!! I call it "R4 Desert Trophy". Just to inform the R4 fans that in 12th, 13th of JUNE will happen a great INTERNATIONAL MEETING of RENAULT 4 in PORTUGAL - Town of Reguengos de Monsaraz. Can you imagine Portugal by R4?? Rock in Rio, EURO 2004,..., and much more!! |

| #292:
robert, Hungary, 14/5/04, r4hu*freemail.hu URL: http://r4hu.fw.hu/ hungarian renault4 club webmaster comments: Another of those strange coincidences. I was passing through your city of Budapest just hours after you signed this book. I spotted a few Renault 4s on the way too, I wonder if one of them was you! I also saw a couple of gleaming red ones down in Székesfehérvár where I was working. However, Trabants clearly rule the roads over there, I must have spotted several hundred during the week, and they were always either faded beige or faded blue. |

Samuel, age 29, UK, 18/2/04, s-maruta*usa.net Fun little site. I have fond memories of 4Ls as I grew up in the country in France and everyone who didn't have a small Citroen (my Granpa had an AMI8, the neighbourhood had 2CVs, Dyanes and Visas as well) used to have a 4L, usually an F4 (my uncle and aunt did). Allez, bonne continuation et a bientot! |

age 21, Netherlands, 11/2/04, marliediva*hotmail.com Hello there! I'm a student from Inholland, communication. This moment we have a car project going on: We need to put a retro restyled brand on the market. Our group choosed the Renault4! I need some background info can somebody help me? For example, what type of person used to buy this car? When was the renault4 hype really hot? How much did it cost at that time (was it expensive compared to other cars?) What was the sphere / feeling around renault 4? Please email me if you can answer any of this questions! TNX a lot! |

Edmunds, UK, 29/1/04, chris.edmunds*tiscali.co.uk I have an excellent Quatrelle(R4) LHD minus plastic strip on the side(ugh), have your Tee Shirt(bought by son, the joint owner), now where do I go for the R4 rally, can be UK or anywhere in Europe. webmaster comments: Can't help you there I'm afraid, I couldn't organize a tupperware party in Buckingham Palace so I won't be arranging any R4 meetings personally. I'm aiming, however, to introduce some interactivity to this site at a later date where owners can discuss and share ideas, so something might happen one day. In the meantime, you could always hook up with either the Dutch or Portuguese R4 clubs and gatecrash one of their events, I'm sure they wouldn't mind a foreign intruder. The Portuguese are having many gatherings nowadays throughout the year. Ferries from the UK run from Portsmouth to Bilbao and it's not too much further on to Portugal from there. Adeus! |
