site tips and hints
These are some general tips for using both this site and possibly many others. Have a nice day!
Tip 1: To jump to the top of any page, hit the 'Home' key on your keyboard. To skip to the bottom, press the 'End' key. You can also use the 'Page Up/Down' and arrow keys to scroll pages without using the mouse. (Note that you may need to click inside the main frame of the page first, i.e. anywhere except the navigation bar at the top).
Tip 2: If the flashing backgrounds are too bothersome, press the 'Stop' button on your browser after the page has fully loaded, and this will usually freeze them. Once past the main section pages however the graphics are more basic. There is an alternative home page and index located here, which lists every main page on the site, and indicates which ones have animated backgrounds.
Tip 3: When you click any thumbnail pictures on this site, the associated file opens in a new window. Any subsequent pictures you select will be targeted to this same new window, so there's no need to keep closing it. The same is true of the world map entries in the guestbook, which will update to any other entries you select. In Windows, hold down the 'Alt' key and press the 'Tab' key to switch between available windows. If you wish to open each image / entry in a separate window, right-click on the link, and select the option 'Open in New Window' (Internet Explorer).
Tip 4: If you view this site at a low resolution or in a small window, you will not be able to see all the icons in the top frame that link to the main sections. To bring these into view, hover the mouse over a blank area of the top frame which is not a link to another page. Then click and drag the mouse across to the right, selecting the frame contents. The icons on the right should now come into view, though the the icons on the left will now have disappeared. This technique may not work with all video adapters / browsers.
Tip 5: If a frame does not load properly (which can occasionally happen when the web servers suffer a glitch), or you want to refresh a page without reloading the whole frameset (which may result in being taken back to the home page), right-click in a blank area of that frame, and select 'Refresh'. This option may not be available with all browsers / operating systems.
Tip 6: When you load a page with several images on it, sometimes they do not all appear. With Internet Explorer they have a small red cross in the corner. At other websites, this could be because of bugs in the page coding or missing files, but that is not the case on this website. All the images are definitely there but sometimes they do not appear due to an unresolved bug that exists in some browser versions. If you right-click on the image and select 'Show Picture' (Internet Explorer), it may then display properly. Alternatively click a link to another page, then press the back button. Most or all of those pictures that previously didn't display should now appear.
Tip 7: Users of Norton Firewall and possibly other security software products, may have trouble loading the page containing all the adverts in the classifieds section. The links to all the categories in the index table may be invisible. There are no dodgy files on this page but the program may block access to it simply due to its filename, which contains the word 'ads'. I could rant on all day about the stupidity of this and how much I hate anything ever made by Norton, but I'll spare you such angst. You can either disable your firewall or copy and paste the following URL into your address bar as a workaround: http://www.renault4.plus.com/classifieds/ads.htm
Tip 8: If you require extra help on how to send your pictures or other documents for inclusion on this site, see my advice page.
Hint 1: Not found the secret page yet? Well it's not very exciting, but if you really hunger for it you'll be seeing red!
If you know of any major bugs or problems with the site, you can complete my site survey in the contact me section, or email me at 4play@renault4.plus.com with the text spangles in the subject header. However, I'm no technical wizard, and can only be bothered fixing stuff if I've nothing better to do, such as muse pontifically over the merits of the Teletubbies in a post modern existentialist society.
