Ah well, a reasonable result really; people clearly not convinced enough of
any commercial sabotage on Renault's part. One other suggestion came from
Peter Monk in Australia, who voted for 'Other'. He writes: 'I believe the
car the R4 is most based on is the DS Citroen. I own 2 DS's and an R4 and
hydraulic suspension aside I find the resemblances remarkable. The mechanical
layout with engine against the firewall and gearbox ahead under the radiator
are clones of each other. The very flat floors with the compact rear suspension
in each case contribute to the interior roominess of the vehicles. The softness
of the suspension gives a ride/comfort similarity. In short;- I see the R4
as the poor man's DS and the DS as the rich man's R4!'

Once again Peter Monk had another idea as to which car might bear the most
similarity. He writes: 'I voted for the "other Renault model"
category. I have done this with the Renault 16 in mind. The R16 is really
an R4 on steroids. I had an R16 many years ago and rue the day I got rid of
it. What a fantastic car and as much as I love my 2 Citroen DSs and Renault
4 the R16 remains the overall best best car I have had anything to do with
(and that list includes Skoda, Triumph, Rover, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar and
Range Rover). During those quiet moments of the soul I sometimes dream of
a Renault 16TX with Citroen hydropneumatic suspension.......... but however
good it would be its basis is the R4.'
