50th anniversary - Brooklands 2011: photo set 1 number 14

Brooklands set 1 number 14

Though this Savane has now been registered in the UK like my own, it still sports the sticker in its rear windscreen from the garage in Marseille where it was originally sold. The name 'Savane' was effectively just a light rebranding of the TL editions for the French market and one or two other countries, from around 1987 onwards. The GTL versions were designated as 'Clan', but other countries didn't go with these new editions, which are distinguished from a standard TL or GTL only by the style of interior furnishings and decals on the bodywork. The later Savane TL models were fitted with a 956cc engine, a step up from the previous 850cc, whilst the Clan GTL stuck with the 1108cc motor that it had always had. I'm not aware of any British right-hand drive versions of either the Savane or Clan, since UK imports ceased in 1986, although one of Renault's representatives who I met at the 2010 Kent run suggested they did receive some.
