Angel in Sussex, 1996

This is the earliest photo of my first car, Angelica, taken in Hove when my parents first bought it in 1996; one of those shots most probably taken just for the sake of finishing a film to take it for developing, hence the colour distortions from overexposure being on the end of the reel. Little did they realise at the time that it would later spark a long running love affair between man and machine, causing the former to start this weird website a few years down the line. The name Angelica, or Angel for short, was derived by me from the letters AGC on the number plate.

I received contact from one of the car's former owners in the Thames Valley area in late 2002, a couple of years after I had parted with it. He recognised it on this site and turned out to be the guy who sold it to the collector in Worthing that my parents bought it from. He purchased the car himself in June 1994 in Esher, Surrey, and it used to have a sticker reading Mom's Taxi in the rear window, which he promptly removed! Apparently, the R4 was a bit of a pulling magnet since he found notes left on the windscreen asking if the owner was as cute as the car!
