Nicolexia overlooking the Pennines near Diggle, England, April 2002

For once, Tansie the dog didn't get in on the act this time, due most probably to her being some 250 miles away at home in the south-east of England. This set of pictures was taken in a very picturesque spot up in the Pennines, north-west England, in April 2002. I had the original negatives rescanned in 2010, which brings out some of the detail in the scenery and the vivid colours of the paintwork. Here, the completed car can finally be seen, with the side panels back on in their gleaming yellow to complement the rest of the trim.

This location was close to the village of Diggle, on the very outskirts of Greater Manchester. There is an entrance to an exceptionally long railway tunnel just below this hill, which takes a few minutes to travel through on an express train. It goes right underneath some very large looming hills to the north and emerges in Yorkshire. (That's your vague and faintly interesting fact of the day.)

I climbed up a steep mound to take the next few. Unfortunately, the view is far more spectacular in reality than these pictures can ever do it justice. This is the exact same spot that I'd visited the year before in the snow, where I'd taken some rather more special photographs, alas on that cursed film which never wound on or developed.

This was my last excursion into the Pennines in which Nicolexia had - according to logs - spent most of her life, shortly before I moved back down south. We would both miss the scenery, but I think the car preferred the warmer climate of the south coast.

The photos in the entry following these (#MP17) were taken at the same spot, and show the interior of the car for the first time.
