Roberto Alvarez recently contributed some pictures of his car, which you can find at number PP202 in this section. Here it is again, but adorned with rally stickers for an event held in Roberto's home country, Uruguay. Roberto sends this account of his R4 history:

'My name is Roberto, I'm 49 years old and I was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. The Renault is from year 1971 and was fabricated in Argentina. I bought it nearly three years ago and I yet haven't finished putting it all together, there's always something to do in order to improve the van. The only thing I've added to it, is a stereo, so that I'm always together with Coltreane, Hendrix, Zeppelin and some other good friends. Now in Uruguay, the Renault 4 S is extremely difficult to be found, specially nearby the ocean and the ones remaining are totally out of order, in the seventies there were a lot of them, because as I've said they came from Argentina. When you pass by the street people turn to see it and the youngest don't believe very much when you told them it is a Renault, I think it may happen something similar to you.'

Roberto continues:

'I ride it exclusively on the route, and I've recently competed on my first race, the 3rd Great Prize of Uruguay (Rally 19 Capitales), together with my friend Juan Pablo Delger, who was who discovered it in a garage and I didn't hesitate in buying it. This is a 3 historic prize of 4-day-racing (2.800 kms), honouring pilots that had raced in the "Circuito de las 19 Capitales" on the twenties. Sincererly yours, Roberto.'
