I received these pictures from Svend J., who makes mention of the R4 being a great car to drive from Oslo to Cape Town. A group of Renault 4 enthusiasts undertook this 18,000km journey in just two months, back in 2004. He explains:

'We had an amazing trip. First of all, the three cars made it. On their own wheels 18.000km all the way to CapeTown/ZA in bad roads, tracks and deserts. Three cars, 6 friends, and our "hotel" at the roof. No extra support or helping hands was needed. The blue car was more or less pushed bumper to bumper the last 1000km. With two cylinders out of order, it needed some help up the hills. We shipped the cars back to Norway, and all the three are back in good running condition.'

Svend continues:

'Unfortunately the 50 years anniversary of the R4 in July will be just at the time we are doing our next journey. As a tribute to the anniversary we are going to ship two 1962 models to New York and cross USA and end up in Los Angeles 5 weeks later. Otherwise we would go to France with our "Africa-cars".'
